Are you unable to find the skilled staff that you require for your business from within the local community?
Supported by the Department of Trade and Economic Development, the Southern Flinders Ranges Development Board provides a service to local employers seeking to use skilled migration as a way of filling vacancies with experienced staff.
If your business has not been able to fill a skilled position through the local labour market, then you may be able to access skilled workers from overseas through employer sponsorship.
Sponsorship Options There are two main options for employer sponsorship of skilled migrants in regional South Australia.
Permanent (RSMS) Your business can sponsor a skilled worker from overseas for permanent residency. The basic criteria for permanent sposorship is as follows:
The position must be fulltime;
The position must be available for at least two years;
The position must be renumerated according to Australia Industrial requirements;
The position mustmeet labour market testing criteria;
This sponsorship is commonly referred to as RSMS.
Temporary (457) If a shorter arrangement would suit your business needs, you can sponsor a skilled worker from overseas for temporary residence for any period between three months and four years. This sponsorship is more commonly referred to as Temporary (or 457) Sponsorship. The requirements for this sponsorship are as follows:
The position must be full time;
A minimum salary must be offered according to current Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC);
The position must be a skilled or semi-skilled occupation and in some cases, meet labour market testing criteria.
Other criteria includes the business must also be able to demonstrate their commitment to training and requires a migrant to be under 45, be suitably skilled and be able to satisfactorily demonstrate their English language ability.
